HILLIARD, OH (May 30, 2012) – Anda, Inc. recently opened a new “lean distribution” center in Olive Branch, Mississippi designed and implemented by VARGO™. VARGO was chosen for their unique approach to the lean distribution concept, which at its most basic level allows a distribution center the ability to fulfill orders faster, at lower costs and with much less reliance on mechanized equipment. The end result is a new facility that significantly reduced staffing needs and increased throughput compared to their other facilities.
Anda, Inc is a division of Watson Pharmaceuticals and primarily distributes generic and select brand pharmaceutical products to independent pharmacies, alternate care providers (hospitals, nursing homes and mail order pharmacies), pharmacy chains and physicians’ offices. In 2011, they shipped to 62,500 customer locations across all trade classes. The lean distribution system designed by VARGO allows Anda to assemble orders for both controlled and non-controlled substances while minimizing the need for large work in-process buffers. The highly efficient operation required a lower over overall investment in capital compared to traditional systems that were considered, and enabled an efficient and scalable use of labor to accommodate growth and peak curves in volume.
