About VARGO®
VARGO® is a team of mechanical and software engineers on the forefront of enabling both operational efficiency and automation via waveless and continuous e-commerce and omnichannel fulfillment solutions. For over five decades, VARGO® has worked with manufacturers, distributors and leading retailers — including numerous e-commerce providers and 3PL’s — to improve their e-commerce fulfillment and material handling systems, increase processing capacities and reduce order cycle times. VARGO® uses its proven, pull-based methodologies to create intelligent solutions for fulfillment centers and leads the industry by integrating robotics and automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) into solutions. VARGO® is the only company that offers COFE® (Continuous Order Fulfillment Engine), the software that does for fulfillment what Lean did for manufacturing.
Since the company’s founding in 1971, by Julius and Mary Ann Vargo, VARGO has been committed to distribution solutions that pioneered innovation in the industry. Following the retirement of Julius, their son Michael led the company as president and then CEO. Several Vargo family members also have worked in the company, including today.
In 2022, VARGO transitioned from a family-owned and operated entity to an employee-owned company (ESOP) with a companywide commitment to empower e-commerce fulfillment far into the future.
From our decades of industry expertise, innovation and our engineering integration prowess to our proven software and automated solutions, we have earned a reputation for being the best at empowering fulfillment.
A Tribute to Our Founder
Julius and Mary Ann Vargo, started Vargo Associates in 1971. They saw Columbus as a major national distribution hub and identified a growing need for material handling expertise. They wanted to create a company that would serve as a national leader for warehousing, fulfillment, and distribution solutions. Julius Vargo built the company’s foundation on a strong commitment to customer service and innovative solutions and technologies.
In 1986, son Michael joined the company and in January 2001, Julius handed the reigns of the company to Michael, who became the company’s second president, and Julius assumed the role as the company’s CEO and chairman.
Throughout his career, Julius was active in industry organizations, such as the Material Handling Equipment Organization. He also had a passion for giving and was involved in many local charitable organizations.
